Way back in NYC during the late 90s, when I was at my peak as a club promoter, DJ Kaori spun records for me almost exclusively. Twilo, Sound Factory, NV, Save The Robots, Limelight, where ever I was, Kaori was on the decks. I felt all warm and fuzzy inside watching her blossom over the years, like a big brother watching his little sister. In her native country, her ex-boyfriend, DJ Masterkey was big, like Funkmaster Flex big. When she made her triumphant return to Tokyo, she was an instant rockstar. Seriously. I mean TV, Music Videos, Fans stopping her for pictures and autographs. When Kaori and masterkey get together there to rock parties, it is the big event for Tokyo hip hop clubbers. Check them out next Friday as club Ageha, the largest club I’ve ever seen in Japan, continues to celebrate it’s 5th year anniversary. Odaiba, Tokyo. ¥3,500 entrance.
